Celebrate ACSA National Open Day on 19 June 2015

ACSA_DINKUS_2015-01Aged care providers across Australia will open their doors to local communities on 19 June 2015 to celebrate National Open Day and the positive experiences of ageing.

The inaugural Open Day last year attracted 45 different events in South Australia and over 380 events nationwide. ACS SA & NT CEO Alan Graham said “this was a great start to the aged care sector engaging with the community and we are optimistic that the 2015 Open Day events will exceed that number.”

“We strongly encourage all aged care providers to participate this year, to let the public view our excellent facilities and high quality of care on offer,” Mr Graham said.

Australia’s residential and community aged care and retirement villages have an international reputation for innovation and excellence.

“National Open Day gives providers and staff an opportunity to showcase their services to their local communities,” Mr Graham said.

“Aged care services are at the heart of many smaller communities and it is their presence that allows many older Australians to live longer in their own homes.

“The existence of aged care services must never be underestimated, especially as our population ages.

“This is the second time ACSA is joining with its sister organisations in the UK, Malta and South Africa and other countries to celebrate National Open Day.

“The Australian experience last year was overwhelmingly positive, with families, friends and volunteers joining with staff, residents and people receiving care in the community to celebrate all the good that happens in the sector.

“All families should have a conversation about ageing and your local aged care provider’s Open Day is a great place for this to begin.”

The National Open Day is supported by ACSA National and its State Associations.

Aged and Community Services Australia is the peak body for mission-based aged care providers.
