Innovative or New Initiatives that Promote OH&S & Return to Work

The Aged Care Association of Australia, South Australia (ACAA-SA), with funding from Employers Mutual, undertook a research project to identify innovative or new strategies within the aged care industry being used to drive change and improve occupational health and safety and return-to-work outcomes.

ACAA-SA is now offering two-hour sessions where Cheryl Milburn, the Project Manager, will present her findings. Please click on the links for a report on the Project and Registration Form for the sessions.

 

 

 

Management of Nurses and Midwives with a Blood Borne Virus

The Nurses Board of South Australia (NBSA) would like to invite nurses, midwives and employers to a workshop on the Management of Nurses and Midwives with a Blood Borne Virus.

Travel subsidies for rural and remote health professionals to attend Dementia Conference

SA & NT Dementia Training Study Centre is offering a limited number of subsidies for health professionals living in remote and rural areas to assist with transport and accommodation expenses to attend the 2009 Alzheimer’s Australia Conference to be held from 2–5 June 2009 at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

The Conference theme, The Power is Now: Moving on Dementia, reflects the current attention being given to dementia throughout the world by support organisations, researchers and governments, through wide-ranging research and support for those living with dementia. These are the tools for moving on dementia as we seek knowledge of cause, diagnosis, relief, prevention and cure.

4th International Conference on Creative Expression, Communication and Dementia

Aged & Community Services Australia 2009 National Conference - Short Film Festival

Do you want to enter the ACSA 2009 Conference Short Film Festival competition?

Cash Prizes up for Grabs!

ACSWA is hosting the National ACSA Conference at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre from 13-16 September 2009. Expressions of interest are now being sought from documentary makers and novice film-makers, to produce short films focussing on the aged and community care sector.

The theme for the ACSA 2009 National Conference is "Get Up, Stand Up". And who can doubt that it's time for the aged and community care industry to stand up for their rights and the rights of the people they support?

Consistent with the theme of the Conference, short films that challenge current thinking about aged and community care are wanted.

1.   Two (2) minute snapshot
2.   Five (5) minute mini-documentary

PRIZES: A $500 prize will be offered to the winner of each category, and in addition each winner will receive an item that will be of use in their workplace.

SCREENING: Finalists' film clips will be screened in the main Conference room and in the exhibition hall. The winning films will be announced and screened at the culmination of the Conference.

Expressions of interest by Monday 9 March 2009.

On 5 February 2009, the Full Court of the Supreme Court of South Australia delivered a judgment with enormous ramifications for the retirement village sector. The decision is Chappel Investment Company Pty Ltd and Smallacombe Investment Company Pty Ltd -v- The City of Mitcham.

Legislated training

Rehabilitation & Return to Work Co-ordinators (legislated training as of 1/1/09)

Have you appointed your R&RW Co-ordinator yet? If not, attend this training at ACS . . .

All organisations employing 30 or more actual workers (not EFTs) are required to appoint and train a Rehabilitation and Return to Work Co-ordinator (RRTWC) by 1 July 2009. Nominated RRTWCs must undergo approved training to up-skill them for the role.

This course covers the training requirements for those individuals who have been appointed as the RRTWC within their workplace.

Date: 3 days - Monday 30 March, Tuesday 31 March & Wednesday 1 April 2009

Palliative Care and Advance Care Planning - new joint initiative between ACS and Palliative Care SA

All staff in residential or community care who have resident/client contact and/or responsibilities need an understanding of Advance Directives (such as Medical Power of Attorney and Anticipatory Directions) to ensure resident/client wishes are respected.

In this short members-only session you will find out about informal and formal Advance Care Planning, palliative care, referring to and accessing a palliative care service, and implementing a good Palliative Care Plan.
