An Introduction to Aged Care DVD
Due to the popularity of the ACSA 2008 Conference DVD Aged Care in the Fast Lane, an edited version (minus specific references to the Conference) is now available for purchase . A useful addition to any organisation’s resources, An Introduction to Aged Care will complement training sessions, staff induction programs, Board briefings and more.

Legislation Update Service - Aged and Community Services SA & NT has identified more than 100 pieces of State and Commonwealth legislation with direct or indirect applicability to aged care. While it is not necessary for aged care providers to have every piece of relevant legislation immediately accessible, providers need to be aware of legislation that may impact on operations.

The subscription rate has been set as low as possible in order to achieve significant savings for members. For 2010, ACS is aligning this service to the financial year. The subscription rate reflects a subscription period of 18 months which will ensure receiving legislative updates until the end of June 2011.

Model Residential Care Service Agreement
Model Residential Care Service Agreements (Aged Care Act 1997)
ACS SA & NT (ACS) now has TWO options regarding the Model Residential Care Service Agreement.
1. O’Loughlins Lawyers Model Residential Care Agreements
Option ONE was initially developed in conjunction with solicitor Peter Myhill (O'Loughlins Lawyers) in 1998 and still remains effective.

The model is for consideration, development and adaptation for the particular circumstances of the user and therefore should be regarded as a draft document. ACS strongly recommends that legal advice be obtained in relation to the model and its adaptation for the user. Every care has been taken in the preparation and presentation of the models. However, no responsibility is accepted by O’Loughlins Lawyers or ACS for reliance upon it without specific advice. |
The Permanent and Respite Residential Care Services Agreements are framework agreements based on the relevant requirements of the Aged Care Act 1997 which require manual input by ACS members to tailor or customise the agreements. Examples of some of the information that a member would need to input manually is client name, relevant daily fees, interest rate, bond or charge amounts. The Member purchasing the agreement assumes all responsibility for checking the information manually inputted is current at the date of completing the agreement. ACS is unable to provide legal advice about the Agreements.
Peter Myhill (O’Loughlins Lawyers) will advise ACS of ongoing amendments or changes required to the Agreements and once ACS receives such advice from O’Loughlins Lawyers ACS will advise members via Snippets / News Bites of the need for change and any costs associated with purchasing such changes. Members may also choose to purchase the agreements through ACS and then seek further legal advice such as tailoring the agreement to an organisation’s individual needs from O’Loughlins Lawyers.
Peter Myhill will also offer a once per year free group information session to ACS members about the model Residential Care Agreements so that members can discuss agreements issues or concerns with Peter.
Member cost is $299 + GST for Permanent Resident Care Agreement and $250+GST for Respite Residential Care Agreement. Reviewed Nov 2010.

The Model Residents Contract Independent Living Units is a basic template agreement developed by O’Loughlins Lawyers designed for residents who are entering into an agreement to live in an Independent Living Unit under the Retirement Villages Act (SA).
O’Loughlin Lawyers advise that the Model Residents Contract for Independent Living Units is a basic template with considerable work to be undertaken to customise to an individual aged care provider. No additional fee rate has been advised by O’Loughlins Lawyers. ACS is unable to provide legal advice about the Agreement.

Community Aged Care Packages (CACP) Standards Workbook - The workbook will assist services to increase their awareness of the CACP Standards, acknowledge accomplishments, identify gaps in service delivery and documentation and provide a starting point for quality improvement strategies. The workbook was developed by the CACP Providers of SA as an initiative of the ACS SA & NT CACP Steering Committee.
In Their Shoes - a training resource - This training resource for new and existing staff considers the individuality and diversity of older people in residential aged care facilities and what this means for the way in which care is provided. A wide range of issues are raised and illustrated with case studies to encourage discussion. It also includes a "For You to Find Out" section, so that carers are aware of their organisation's policies and procedures on specific issues. In Their Shoes has been produced in
close consultation with care staff, managers and trainers working in residential aged care facilities.
In Their Homes - a training resource - This valuable training resource will help all paid home care workers and registered nurses who provide personal care, care around the home, nursing care or a combination of activities to people in their own homes. It will also be useful for volunteers such as Meals on Wheels workers. A wide range of issues are covered. It also includes a "For You to Find Out" section, so that workers are aware of their organisation's policies and procedures on specific issues, such as organisation duties, money matters, confidentiality, OHS, reporting accidents and so on.
ACSA Strategic and Business Planning Kit - A step by step tool to assist aged and community services plan for the future and thrive. This practical and useful resource includes a detailed, six-step planning guide and a planning wall chart. The Kit will help you to understand the planning process; decide on your mission, vision and values; identify your strengths and weaknesses; consider opportunities and threats; implement and review your plans; determine future directions.
Accreditation Resources Guide
The Accreditation Resources Guide helps residential care providers to meet accreditation requirements for announced and unannounced visits. The guide addresses the Accreditation Agency’s expected outcomes through 12 accreditation modules, suggesting strategies and documentation to assist in presenting facilities at their best.
